My Films of 2012

Apologies for posting this late, blame ill health, but here we are once again, with my list of all the films I saw over the last 12 months.

A brief overview - basically I keep track of all the films I watch (I’ve been doing this since 2006) on a monthly basis over the course of the year, just so I can post the list up here at the end of December.

During the course of 2011 I watched only 88 film, during 2012 I appear to have seen 102 – still some way behind 2010′s 145 films.
The reason for no films during September is because I was moving house and pretty much all my free time was taken up with that.

Anyway, enjoy the list.

RiP Sir Patrick Moore

Patrick Moore has been an almost constant presence on BBC TV in one way or another for the entirety of my lifetime. A very knowledgable person whose intellect and insight will be missed has now joined the stars with which he was so passionate about observing. RIP Sir Patrick Moore

A New Hope

I felt a great disturbance in the Force… as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

10 Upcoming Sci-Fi and Fantasy Film Remakes

I totally understand the sentiment of “stop ruining classics” (which a lot of the originating films in the linked list could very well be considered to be), but you know what, it’s not actually ruining the originating film. I was all “stop raping my childhood” not long ago, but there’s been so many reboots and

New Sandman!

New Sandman is coming! November 2013. I’m so excited by this.

Blade Runner in Watercolour

In celebration of it’s release 30 years ago on the last weekend in June, here’s “Blade Runner” as you’ve never seen it before — created entirely from 3,285 aquarelle paintings, by Anders Ramsell.

Spaceship or Time Machine?

Would you rather have a time machine you can’t control, or a spaceship you can? This was asked by someone on my Fb timeline. It’s an interesting question. And one I still find I’m having an internal debate about, despite living with the question for a few days now. With a time machine, you’re stuck

Spaihts on working with Scott

Jon Spaihts, screenwriter of Prometheus, on the benefits of working with a top-flight artist like Ridley Scott : “I’d go home, then come back the next morning, and on the wall there would be a four foot-wide painting of the scene I had talked about the night before,” he remembered. “That’s the luxury of working at

Top 10 Best Sci-Fi Films

I’ve been thinking about this for a couple of days now, and I really can’t compile my all-time favourite top ten sci-fi list. There’s just too many really good science fiction films out there that would miss out on a spot. Quite a few of what’s contained in the link at the bottom of this
